Boone County Superintendent recommends eliminating 77 positions

MADISON, W.Va. — Boone County Superintendent of Schools John Hudson recommended the cut of about 77 positions from the public school system Tuesday.

Citing both declining coal severance revenue and enrollment, Hudson said the move is unfortunate but necessary.

Sixty of the positions that will be eliminated are either teachers or administrator jobs. Hudson estimated that the school system currently employs 660 people.

The board will vote on the cuts on March 1.
