WHEELING, W.Va. — The Ohio County Board of Education has narrowed down their search for a new school superintendent.

On Monday, board members announced Mark Miller, superintendent of Buckeye Local Schools, and Kimberly Miller, principal at Woodsdale Elementary School, as the two finalists for the job to replace Dianna Vargo.

The board decided in December not to renew Vargo’s contract, which was criticized by several community members.

Vargo was not terminated, board members said. Those in the majority said they want to take the Ohio County school district “in a new direction.”

The board will meet again on Friday to interview both finalists. The new superintendent will be announced Feb. 22.

Vargo’s time as superintendent will end in June.
